DRAWING FASHION: THE BASICS (ages 12-15)

  • Pinkwater STUDIOS 239 Fair Street Kingston, NY, 12401 United States (map)

A foundational workshop designed for the TWEEN age group, to give 12-15 year olds a taste of how to draw fashion. You will learn about the basic structure and proportion of the classic fashion figure, how ‘attitude’ makes the art, and then practice drawing from a live model.  A great starting point for further exploration of the art of fashion illustration.

Charcoal drawing on newsprint by Anne Sanger

We will start with a survey of some examples of fashion illustration from the past and by illustrators working today. We will move on to understanding the elongated proportions of the classic fashion figure. The basic building blocks of the fashion figure will be dissected, and we will talk about how to establish “attitude” and movement in a fashion illustration.

We will practice what we have learned about the classic fashion figure by drawing from a live model. Note, we will not work with color or fabric rendering in this class, as understanding the basic figure is foundational.

Suitable for ages 12-15

Note, all classes are held in a shared art studio on the 3rd floor, accessible by stairs only.
