SNACK & BROWSE

Kingston Social

Getting the most out of Kingston in a day or two requires coffee… this spot (and our home on Fair Street) offers authentic Italian pastries and espresso along with a mercantile bursting with clever kids items and a perfectly curated selection of gifts and goods for the home.

Rough Draft bar & books

Rough Draft, 82 John Street

Rough Draft, 82 John Street

The perfect bookstore is harder and harder to find IRL, though they are legion in these parts (The Golden Notebook in Woodstock and Oblong Books in Rhinebeck are two favorites). But Rough Draft surpasses its competition by offering a bar, where you can belly up and chat books, or whatever, with fellow patrons.

Sweet Maresa, 291 Wall Street

Sweet Maresa

Our favorite spot for a sweet treat, these artful macarons in flavors like Earl Grey and Pistachio had us at ‘hello’. We offer their peanut butter and chocolate sesame gluten free cookies in the café at Kingston Social!

Le Canard Enchaîné

The locals know the insider secret is to enjoy this classic French bistro at lunch, when it’s possible to find the best salade niçoise or soupe à l’oignon this side of Paris.

Salt Box Bar, 10 Crown Street

Salt Box Bar

In a historic building on Crown Street, you will find a lively spot on Kingston’s bar scene. A true neighborhood watering hole, billed as a ‘stylish dive bar’, where the drinks are (relatively) cheap and there is a lively mix of locals and visitors.

Assembly Kingston

Assembly Kingston, 236 Wall Street

Years after our beloved BSP closed, Uptown Kingston once again has a world-class music venue booking national acts!

Hotel Kinsley Restaurant

A visit to Kingston is seriously not complete without a meal at the restaurant in the Hotel Kinsley, which offers weekend brunch and dinner every night of the week. Although the restaurant boasts a handsome room befitting the bank that it was in a former life, as well a delightful mural* over the kitchen, the best seat in the house is next to the working fireplace, though some would argue it’s best to sit at the bar, which serves inventive cocktails as is de rigeur nowadays for a dining destination.

*Did you know…

Kingston is famous for its murals! Created annually by artists on buildings all over town, this unique event started over a decade ago and continues every October, in conjunction with the O+ (pronounced ‘Oh Positive’) festival. When you visit, see if you can find delightful twosome pictured below, located in a hidden spot that only the locals know!
