INTRO TO WRITING A CHILDREN'S BOOK with Lisa Lerner

  • Pinkwater Studio (3rd Fl) 239 Fair Street Kingston, NY, 12401 (map)

As the brilliant Madeleine L'Engle said, "You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grownups, then you write it for children."

Writing for kids is deeply impactful. Think back to your own childhood. Most likely, you were obsessed with the hero of a book, and you loved that book because it was hilarious, or thrilling, or made you feel as though you weren’t a weirdo living on the wrong planet. Maybe it taught you things you didn’t realize were possible. Maybe it even helped you survive. Human brains are wired for story, and story is the path to comfort and change.

This free 90-minute workshop for adults and teens will introduce the rules of writing for kids, facts about the current market, and the opportunity to pitch ideas, ask questions, and do a little fun writing to prompts. Bring a pencil and notebook or write on your phone!

Great for artists looking to add stories to their visuals or just anyone who is “kid-lit curious.’

Prepare to have fun and start dreaming!

All materials supplied.

Suitable for ages 16+

Note, all classes are held in a shared art studio on the 3rd floor, accessible by stairs only.
