In her distinctive, painterly canvases, Osterberg’s figures inhabit pockets of calm in time and space—even if the time is rush-hour and the space the NYC subway. Steeped in her Scandinavian heritage, she captures families and homes in ways that suggest the tension between the personal and the nostalgic, the impersonal and the detached. Her broad interests extend further. In oil compositions that verge on abstraction, she evokes and plays on the traditions of still life. Shadowy, slightly haunted, her arrangements strip down vignettes to their essentials.
Kristin Osterberg (b. 1963, American) lives and works in the New York City area. She has shown her work extensively at The Painting Center, NYC and throughout Westchester County. In addition to her solo show at Pinkwater Gallery in 2024, she will have a one-woman show at The Painting Center in April 2025. She is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design.
